Starting solids: the equipment that earns its place
The weaning aisle is enormous and most of it is optional. A short list covers the first year comfortably.
A steamer-blender does two jobs in one
Steaming preserves more than boiling and the same unit purees afterwards, which removes a transfer and a second thing to wash.
For anyone making batches, this is the piece that actually saves time rather than adding a gadget.
Texture is a progression
Smooth purees give way to thicker textures and then to soft finger food. A machine that only makes one consistency stops being useful quickly.
Pulse control matters more than power for this reason.
Batch and freeze
Cooking once a week and freezing in portions is the whole strategy. It is also why the size of the bowl matters more than the motor.
Label with the date. Frozen purees are not identifiable by sight after a fortnight.
Bottle warmers and food
A warmer with a defrost setting handles frozen portions as well as milk, which makes it a genuinely dual-purpose item.
Warming evenly and stirring before serving matters more with solids than with milk, because pockets of heat are easy to miss.
Bibs you can throw away
Disposable bibs with a crumb catcher exist for eating away from home, where taking a wet fabric bib back with you is the actual problem.
At the table, fabric is better. On a train, it is not.
Baby-led weaning needs less kit
If you go the finger-food route, most of the machinery is unnecessary and you need a good high chair and patience instead.
Both approaches work. Buying for both at once is what gets expensive.
What to skip at first
Full dinner sets, specialist storage systems and anything that promises to make weaning quick. Start with a steamer, a few pots and a couple of spoons.
You will know within a month what you actually reach for.

Where this sits in the shop
Lullaby Baby groups its range into 6 sections, so it is usually quicker to start from the group than to scroll the whole shop. These are the ones with stock on the shelf right now:
- Bath and Skincare — 8 items
- Sippy and Straw Cups — 4 items
- Feeding and Weaning — 2 items
- Bottles and Nipples — 2 items
- Nursery and Safety — 2 items
- Hair and Grooming — 1 item
If none of those is obviously right, the full shop lists everything on one page.
